Valerie Purdie Greenaway, PhD

Valerie Purdie Greenaway is a professor in the Department of Psychology at Columbia University and an instructor at Columbia Business School. She teaches, conducts research and consults with global leaders to help them develop and foster inclusive work cultures. Dr. Purdie Greenaway’s research focuses on how stereotypes about women, ethnic minorities, and other diverse groups undermine high performance. She is a thought leader on strategies to break unconscious stereotypes and bias to maximize performance and motivation for all groups. Dr. Purdie Greenaway has authored over 50 publications and her research has been featured in media outlets such as the New York Times, Fortune Magazine, The Atlantic and Scientific American.

Dr. Purdie Greenaway consults for corporate clients, educational institutions and non-profit agencies. Select clients, past and present, include Goldman Sachs, Brystol Meyers Squibb, Ernst & Young, Baxter, TPG, KIPP Foundation for Education, American Physics Society-Nuclear Physics Division, and Teach for America.

Previously, Dr. Purdie Greenaway served on the faculty at Yale University. She completed her doctoral work in psychology at Stanford University. She completed her undergraduate work at Columbia University and lettered in varsity basketball.
